Ckrush Digital Media Inc. launched "LiveMansion the Movie", the first feature film by an online community - starring and directed by its members.
The concept for LiveMansion is simple, any member can register (registration is free) and try for a role in the multi-round open casting call competition. The other aspect of the promotion is the directors competition, which works in a similar manner as the actor / actress competition, but there entrants compete to become the director the movie. LiveMansion members alone will decide who will be starring in and directing the movie.
Jeremy Dallow, Ckrush's president stated in the New York Times that, "The idea here is obviously to build up an audience for the movie beforehand." In another report Dallow stated, "Having followed and studied the trends in the online social network space, we developed the site to exploit gaps both functionally and operationally. As membership in these networks tends to build on itself, growing exponentially, we believe that LiveMansion.com's member audience will be the source of potential huge digital assets with significant potential for generating revenues."
Websites such as LiveMansion.com that aggregate digital content have seen an explosion in recent years. One of the most popular websites and pioneers in this space is MySpace. What makes LiveMansion.com unique is the ability to allow the public determine the winner of the promotion based on the digital content that was submitted.
When structuring these promotions it is important to consider the legal challenges regarding copyrights, Sponsor discretion in dealing with inappropriate content as well as entry requirements.
