Shaffer Quoted in The Pennsylvania Record Regarding Stoops v. Wells Fargo Bank

The Pennsylvania Record quoted Olshan Partner Scott Shaffer in its July 12th article entitled “TCPA Ruling Gives Defense Ammo Against Professional Plaintiffs,” regarding the recent Stoops v. Wells Fargo Bank ruling. Shaffer was asked about the ruling, issued in United States District Court in Western District of Pennsylvania, which granted summary judgment against a woman who owns 35 cell phones for the purpose of filing lawsuits under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Shaffer explained that the Stoops case "gives defendants a tool to go after professional plaintiffs… most attorneys wanted a clear ruling with [recent Supreme Court decision known as] Spokeo, but it was left a little open.” Shaffer told the Pennsylvania Record that he believes the Stoops ruling will help clear some of the ambiguity remaining after Spokeo.
